Salt spray is a materials problem first. Mild steel, zinc-plated hardware, and unpassivated shortcuts pit fast on transoms and hull sides. We specify marine-grade 316 stainless for returns, faces, and visible fasteners, with passivation documented and mixed-metal couples avoided so galvanic cells do not form between letter, stud, and hull fitting.

Brushed finishes hide wash-down micro-abrasion; mirror polish reads yacht-luxury but shows salt bloom sooner. Coatings need salt-environment data — a retail façade powder is not automatically a marine coating.
